Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need both the Barri-Ring and Barri-Box for my applications?
No, they are standalone products with their own UL listings
Is five-siding with drywall an acceptable method for protecting shower valves in fire rated assemblies?
No! The IBC requires that membrane penetrations, which include shower valves, be protected with a listed assembly that includes an equal F & T rating. To accept five-siding opens the possibility of liability claims.
Is it acceptable to use an engineering judgment to protect your valves?
While they are accepted by some AHJ's, they should not be used if a listed solution is available. An engineering judgement by a manufacturer is not accepting liability, it is only saying their proposed solution "should" work.
If a listing does not include all the project conditions, such as back-to-back valves, are they ok to be used?
Absolutely not. If a condition is not in the listing, it was not tested.
Is it OK to use your products in shaft walls so as not to have to build a furred out secondary wall?
Definitely. Both were tested for use in shaft walls and would be a huge space, time, and money saver by eliminating that secondary wall!
